About The Hinge Journal
The Hinge Journal is an independent editorial publication focused on residential door hardware — hinges, latches, handles, strike plates, and the small repairs that keep doors quiet and well-aligned.
We write for two audiences: homeowners who want to understand and fix their own hardware, and tradespeople who appreciate a refresher on the specifics of a component. Our guides are practical, sourced, and kept current.
Editorial standards
Our articles are written by the Hinge Journal Editorial Desk. Every guide is:
- Researched against manufacturer documentation, technical references, and field-tested methods
- Written to answer a specific question, not to rank for a keyword
- Cited at the point of claim — sources appear alongside the statements they support
- Reviewed and revised as techniques or products change
We publish no sponsored content. We do not accept product placements. We name brand-name products when they are the correct recommendation and do not when they are not.
How we source
We draw on manufacturer specifications, peer-reviewed maintenance literature, hardware trade publications, and the published work of licensed tradespeople. Where a claim is contested, we present the disagreement rather than resolve it artificially.
